2015年に登録された新しい世界遺産。地中海の要衝であるシチリア島では、古代から諸民族が興亡。ギリシャ、ローマ、ノルマン、アラブなど多様な文明の影響を受け、重層的な独特の文化が生まれた。なかでもパレルモと近郊のモンレアーレ、チェファルに残るアラブとノルマン様式が融合した建造物はエキゾチック。チェファルは海の景観も美しい。
