紀元前9世紀～紀元前1世紀頃、イタリア中部ではエトルリア文明が栄えた。文化・芸術を誇ったエトルリア人は独特の死生観を持ち、埋葬のために「ネクロポリス(死者の街)」を建造。2つの街に趣の異なる墳墓群が残る。
